Chief of Staff
Multi-Family Office
New York, US
In Office
Blackbook Associates is retained on a Chief of Staff search for a multi-family office in New York. This is a technical Chief of Staff role supporting the founder directly across investment activity, portfolio oversight, and the strategic operations of the firm.
This is not a traditional administrative or gatekeeper Chief of Staff position. The successful candidate will operate as a senior thought partner to the founder, with meaningful exposure to investment decisions, fund relationships, and the broader portfolio. Prior experience within an investment-led environment is essential.
The Role
The Chief of Staff will act as the founder's principal extension across the firm's investment and operational activities. Core responsibilities include:
- Partnering with the founder on investment review, due diligence coordination, and ongoing portfolio monitoring across funds, direct investments, and co-investment opportunities
- Preparing briefing materials, investment memos, and analysis to support decision-making
- Managing relationships with external fund managers, GPs, advisors, and counterparties on the founder's behalf
- Driving the operational cadence of the office, including meeting agendas, follow-ups, and cross-functional projects
- Leading discrete strategic projects spanning new investment initiatives, governance, and family-office infrastructure
- Acting as a trusted point of contact across the founder's professional ecosystem
The Candidate
We are seeking candidates with a demonstrable background in investments or finance who have either held a Chief of Staff role previously or are ready to step into one. Likely backgrounds include private equity, private credit, hedge funds, investment banking, family office, or institutional asset management.
Essential:
- Working knowledge of fund structures, investment vehicles, and portfolio construction
- Comfort interpreting investment materials, fund documentation, and financial analysis
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to brief at principal level
- Sound judgment, discretion, and the maturity to operate in a single-principal environment
- Highly organized, with the ability to drive multiple priorities forward independently
Preferred:
- Prior Chief of Staff, investment associate, or principal-adjacent experience
- Exposure to a family office, founder-led, or single-decision-maker environment
- Familiarity with alternative investments across private markets
